EMask was created by Tampa Bay Devil Ray Scout Jeff Evans &
Bellevue University Head Baseball Coach Mike Evans.
They then teamed with plastics / safety expert Rod Laible, CEO
of RD Industries in Omaha, Nebraska.
Company Overview:
EMask was started when Bellevue University coach Mike Evans and
his son Jeff realized there were no longer plastic facemasks
available for baseball and softball. Upon seeing this in the
late1990's the two of them began designing a light weight and eye
appealing clear plastic face guard. They wanted a mask that
would look good, so players would want to wear it. It
took nearly 4 years for Mike and Jeff to save enough money to find a plastic company, and
a person in that company, who was as
passionate about the cause as they were. Rod Laible, owner of RD
Industries, was that person. Rod was brought on board because
of his extensive knowledge of plastics and safety issues.
Rod handles all plastic issues and oversees all in-house testing, and corresponds with the national testing institutions
such as Southern Impact and NOCSAE. Rod's expertise is a huge
part of the success of EMask. Mike Evans, 1995 National Collegiate
Coach of the Year, has been on a crusade since the
early 1980's trying to reduce the catastrophic injuries that
occur each year in baseball and softball games and practices. He
has been a spokesman for the use of face masks at every level
of baseball and softball, making it mandatory for every team he
coaches to wear a face mask on their batting helmet. His teams
has been in the top 10 in hitting every year since 1995.

The business started because Jeff and Mike were
on a mission to make face masks mandatory from Tee Ball to
College. They realized players would not wear facemasks
because they were the football-like, wire facemasks. The two of
them set forth to make a product the players would wear: a baseball/softball specific,
lightweight, clear, plastic facemask.
"EMask was started because we were on a
mission to stop the terrible injuries to players in our favorite
sport, and America's favorite pastime. Baseball and softball
players were not wearing facemasks because the players did not
like their option which was only the football like wire facemasks."
- Jeff Evans
Mission Accomplished:
We decided to make an eye-pleasing, light
weight, clear, plastic facemask that players would want to wear.
We have accomplished this and continuously work towards the
safety of sports as a whole.
