Numerous medical professionals have recommended the use of a protective facemask for hitters in baseball and softball across the country:

  • The American Academy of Pediatrics: "Serious and potentially catastrophic baseball injuries can be minimized by the proper use of available safety equipment. This includes the use of approved batting helmets, MASKS, etc..."

  • American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons: When discussing the protection devices that can be attached to batting helmets this organization said "These devices can help reduce the risk of a serious facial injury if hit by a ball."

  • WTAJ-TV Charlotte: "About 50% of baseball-related injuries are to the head, face, mouth, and eyes. The American Academy of Ophthalmology says baseball is the leading cause of sever eye and dental injuries among child athletes."
